Hello everyone, Today I will be going over how I decorated my Builtins around a fireplace for Christmas. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Decorating builtins for Christmas is SUPER fun!! Trust me!!
Built-in Cabinets
My built-in cabinets are white but, since my color scheme for my house was black gold and Fuschia. I had placed a black wallpaper on some of the cabinets. I really did not want to remove the wallpaper so I decided to leave it.
In fact, the black wallpaper made some of the decorations pop out more. I started by decorating the large builtins first.
Christmas Decor for Large Builtins
I started decorating the top built-in first. I needed something hung up so it would not just be plain. So, I remembered that my sister had done a centerpiece with a loop. I came up with the idea of creating something similar that I could hang on the wall of the built-in.
DIY Christmas Floral loop Centerpiece –
To create the hoop Christmas wreath I purchased two Christmas picks from hobby lobby. I placed these on both sides of the hoop and used green wire to secure them on the hoop. I then took a snowman ornament and cut the string and placed it in between the two picks. I got this snowman ornament from the Shinoda design center.
Lastly, to complete the hoop I made a bow with ribbon and placed small cranberries on it from a pick.
Next, I added two ceramic reindeers and a ceramic tree on that shelf. But I still felt that there was something missing. I remembered that I had a poinsettia garland. I decided to place it around the shelf. This completed that shelf and brought in more color as well as it tied into the theme of my Christmas tree.

Village Shelf Decor
I wanted this shelf to resemble a snowy winter wonderland. I decided to keep it mostly white and grey. I started by placing a snow blanket, to cover the shelf.
Then, I purchased a ceramic house with lights. I also placed these ceramic trees around them. I also had these two steel grey homes that also had lights that I sprayed the roof with snow spray. I placed two acrylic reindeers on both sides.
Lastly, I placed some fake snow and placed it all over it to make it seem like there was snow falling.

Plush Snowman/Dwarf Decor
I had purchased these beautiful plush snowmen and penguins from HomeGoods for only $15 each. Which is a great deal because they cost much more. I didn’t want to just place them on the shelf because it looked too plain.
So, I took some large flocked pine picks and placed one on each side of the snowman and Dwarfs. I then placed some cranberry picks and Poinsettia picks on each side. This way it covered the whole shelf. This made it look like they were sitting on a garland.

Small Shelf Decor
On the top of the smallest shelves I placed A candle holder we had made in one of our previous blog posts. I will link it below if you would like to recreate it. I also placed another plush dwarf next to it.

Next, on the shelf below it I placed a Santa Claus I purchased from HomeGoods. I kept this shelf plain and simple to not take away from the look of the larger shelves.

On the third shelf, I placed a large ceramic tree that lights up. Next to it, I placed a small snowman hanging on the end of the shelf.

Lastly, on the last shelf I found this BEAUTIFUL red reindeer at HomeGoods that I fell in LOVE with. Next to it I placed another tree and a small flocked plant. It decided to keep the smaller shelves more simple so this way the focus could be more on the larger shelves.

Overall, decorating builtins should be easy and not take up much time. I kept it simple but it turned out stunning. I hope that this inspires you to try it on some shelves or if you have builtins as well.
