Interior design is a way to express your personality in your home. Some people follow new trends and some don’t. It’s all based on the preference of style. 2020 had some great trends but some seem to prove that in 2021 we will be saying GOODBYE to those styles and Hello to the new.
1. Bolder Kitchens
These past couple of years we have been seeing a HUGE surge in white kitchens and marble-like countertops. I can tell you that this style is slowly starting to die down. Bolder kitchens are definitely coming into style. For example colored cabinets such as navy blue, black or green. We will definitely be encountering bolder cabinetry colors and even two-tone cabinetry. As for the countertops, darker shades will definitely be making a comeback. The marble look will continue but with more vintage and a more dramatic marble look like Calacatta Gold. Also, we will be seeing a touch of natural colors placed throughout as well.
2. Textured Walls & Wallpaper
The wallpaper will be making a huge comeback in the year 2021. Having floor to ceiling wall coverage will definitely add a dramatic effect. This will all play into the bolder looks of 2021. Different styles can include geometric styles, Textured tiles, floral prints, Concrete walls, etc. Textured walls add depth and a subtle yet different look to walls.
3. Wall Moulding
We will definitely be encountering more wall moldings in 2021. Wall molding can be placed in many different ways. They can have a geometric and contemporary look. It can also be added to doors. We love this style because it adds character to a home. It also makes the wall less boring!
4. Grandmillenal Style
2021 will be a year that brings back major vintage vibes. Pleated curtains and shades, as well as the floral print, will be making a comeback. Also with the old rustic gold vintage hardware. Vintage hardware will play a major effect in tying in the old and the new styles to give a granny chic look.
5. Natural Tone Furniture
We have slowly seen natural tone colors have slowly been making a comeback in 2020, but we will be finding more of these looks in 2021. Wicker and rattan furniture have a natural wood tone and look great with the whole boho-chic look. Adding warmth to a home in 2021 will be important and that is why we will be seeing a major increase in natural tone furniture.
6. Darker and Bolder Paint Colors
For a while the best choice to paint a home was white. Well, in 2021 we will be encountering bolder paint color choices. Black, Green, Blue, etc. These paint colors will give off more eclectic modern and vintage vibes. This plays into the whole combination of older and newer styles.
7. Mix & Match Furniture
Furniture sets have slowly been losing popularity over the years. In 2021 we will most likely rarely be encountering this style. The whole mix and match are definitely coming into place. Either with the same color shades or bolder mix and match color furniture.
8. Coastal Style
When people think of coastal style people start to think of home decor that includes sea animals and that typical ocean blue color. In 2021 coastal style will be changing into a more modern look. This includes the blue and green shades but much lighter and subtly in color. We will be finding the paired with natural wood tones to give more earthy beachy vibes. We have put together a mood board of a coastal-style dining room that I will link.
