In our backyard on one side we have a White Vinyl fence. On the other side we have a wooden fence that we had always wanted to replace. This is because as the backyard was starting to look complete, it was always this fence that kind of ruined the esthetic of the backyard.

Since we could not really replace the fence due to it being a shared fence with our neighbor, we decided to take a different approach. We kept brainstorming different Ideas until I was like I wish there was more greenery in the backyard, but a bush is too much maintenance and it’s kind of a tight area, in which even if we wanted to plant real bushes we would not be able to. So, I remembered that there was a product they sell that is basically a faux bush in the form of a panel.  We decided that this was the best option and to be honest, was a lot better than placing a plane white fence. (These are commonly used in hotels and resorts due to them being incredibly low maintenance and it stays green all year long.)

How to Install Faux Grass Wall

We started off by taking a measuring tape and finding the height and length of the fence and converted it into the square footage. You can do this by multiplying the length by the height and dividing by 144 to give you square feet. After I knew how many square feet, I needed I went on Amazon and found that they are called artificial boxwood fence panels. The greatest part is that they are UV resistant which is great. When purchasing these you must make sure that the product has a certificate claiming that they are UV resistant. This is because we do not want the color to fade.  The panels are extremely easy to assemble. They come in a 20”x 20” panel size and on two sides they have pins to which you can connect them. The link to the product will be BELOW!

In each box there are 12 panels, we connect all 12 of them to the height we wanted. Since our fence is roughly 5 foot, we were able to place 3 panels as the height which covered the entire fence. The way we approached installing it, was we had to go with a 3 by 4 panels and installed them in this order, so we were able to carry them. So, each 12 pieces were connected which formed one large panel.

We installed one large panel at a time and secured them with screws. After the first large panel was secured, we brought in the next large panel. The most important way to approach installing this is to make sure that the hole part of the connection is on one side and the pin connection on the other. This way when you connect the panels it will be an extremely easy process. This step is particularly important to make because otherwise, it can be a real pain connecting the panels on the fence. (I made this mistake and trust me to save yourself some time). We repeated the step by connecting all the large panels together to cover the entire fence. We secured them onto the fence using the screws. Honestly, the way this turned out was much better than what it would have looked like with a white fence. It also changes the entire look of the backyard. It brought in more color and made the backyard look complete. Our family members kept saying that the backyard now looks like a resort. Hopefully, this shows you another way to cover up an ugly fence
