I always wanted to have a makeup vanity in my room but sometimes they can get pricey and the quality isn’t even that great. After my first desk fell apart, I decided to make my own and not splurge too much.

I started of by going to IKEA to purchase the Alex drawer unit. After going to IKEA about 5 times to I finally snagged them. During this whole COVID pandemic, they were running out of them super quickly. Once I got my hands on them it felt like I had won the lottery. Although it took me a couple of trips to get them, it was worth it. These drawers are really easy to assemble and when I purchased them they were on sale for $79 dollars each which are a great deal. They really do hold all your makeup, styling tools, and anything else you want to store. I have linked the where to purchase the drawers below.

For the top, I know that Ikea sells wood tops but tbh I did not want to take that route. I honestly preferred to have a stone placed on mine because I find it more durable and it lasts a long time with no damage. In my opinion, I find it more of a hassle to purchase the wood top at IKEA than to get something like marble, granite, or quartz. I learned a lesson from my last desk to never place a wood top on my makeup vanity, but again that’s a personal preference. Although it will cost more to get something like marble or quartz put in, in the long run, you won’t really have a headache of water spilling or any damage to the top that you may need to replace later down the line. I got this top from a local countertop store and these stores always sell remnants. This one is particularly a bit more expensive than some other pieces because it is an expensive type of marble. Its called Arctic White Marble. You don’t necessarily have to choose this material you can find a cheaper version, such as sparkling white quartz. You can go based on your preference. Just keep in mind if you go with a marble or granite material you will have to seal it roughly every 6 months to a year. Otherwise, you can choose quartz which is maintenance free.

Next, I didn’t want to splurge on a vanity mirror which can get very pricey. So I purchased this mirror from HomeGoods. I hung it horizontally and it was perfect for the space. You can purchase a very similar mirror from IKEA, Target, Walmart, etc. Then to make sure I still maintained a vanity mirror effect I purchased a vanity mirror light kit. It was very affordable and they are really bright and very good quality. Plus, it has the same effect as the pre-drilled ones that came with the mirror. Those ones can range from $200-$500 dollars depending on the size of the mirror. This way I only spent about $70 dollars on a very large mirror, in which I could have spent upwards to $500. Below is the link for the mirror lights.

I purchased the desk chair from Costco about a year ago. Honestly, any chair will work fine. You can find very similar ones on amazon, office depot, etc. I have linked below a chair that is very similar just without the arm handles. Overall the finished look is below and I love it and its perfect and it will last me a long time!!
