Have you ever wondered how you could design wall shelf units? Well, there are many different ways of approaching them. Some people use these in their bedroom and can use them as a display for trophies, bags, shoes, etc. Well, for these shelves lets take a more decorative and vibrant way to decorate them.
Decorative Books:
I mean what are shelves used for, its books. There are many books people can purchase from many places. I decided to use amazon. I was looking for a more decorative book look. Although they are decorative books They still contain some fun information on fashion and home organization. So, I purchased these four books for my bookshelves.

The Little Book of Dior
These are the four books I decided to purchase. They give the shelves a beautiful look.You can decorate them by placing rose quartz on top of the books. I used a Onyx material shaped into a heart that is somewhat transparent. Not any people will have this due to it being custom made but if you are getting a kitchen remodel ask your countertop fabricator if he can make you one from left over material. Otherwise you can use crystals which has a similar effect.
Crystals:
You can use crystals on top of books or just in general on the shelves they look very beautiful. I purchased mine from Home Goods for a very affordable pierce or you can purchase them off of Amazon. On the shelves i used my crystal next to a succulent i got from AtHome.com, and my peace sign sculpture which i will talk about where to get one in the next paragraphs.
Sculptures:
These Sculptures are also fun to place on book shelves. I got this one from HomeGoods, but you can purchase them on amazon as well. I mean what cant you find on Amazon!!
Succulents/Plants:
Succulents and plants are a great way of adding color and making the shelves look a little less dull and succulents and plants are very versatile. They make a room look vibrant and fresh and they go with any color scheme that you may have.
Candles:
Candles are great for shelf units as decorative pieces. (Just make sure you do not light them in the wall shelf unit because that could be a hazard and could cause your wall shelf unit to have a little bit of black residue on them.) I love placing candles as decorative pieces for the shelf units. This is because it looks great next to anything you place next to it. I purchased mine from HomeGoods but you can find most of them at DWHome.com. They are very affordable and they have a variation of scents and they burn for a long time. I also have a couple of Nest candles that I purchased from Nordstrom Rack. These candles are more expensive but they really are amazing candles. If you want to find these candles try to go to Nordstrom Rack they tend to have them at a way cheaper price.
Picture Frames:
Picture frames are beautiful to place on shelving as well they make the room feel more homey and cozy. You can purchase these frames from HomeGoods, or target, Walmart, Wayfair, etc. I tend to purchase mine from HomeGoods. They are affordable and have a wide range of varieties.
Sunglasses Display:
You can also display your sunglasses. It’s also very convenient because right before you leave you can look in the mirror and grab a pair and go.
Fragrances:
This is a perfect spot to place all of your fragrances because they are the finishing touch. They also make a beautiful display due to the different shapes and colors from the bottles.
Geometric Sphere Sculpture:
I got mine a couple of years ago, they came in a set of three and I used the middle one. You can find very similar ones at Nordstrom Rack. This gives the shelves a more fun look it changes things up. You can even change it up a little, by placing some flowers inside.
Handbags:
You can place your favorite handbags to display. You can mix and match with colors and brands and they are a perfect spot for cross bodies.
Box Display:
If you have any shoe boxes that have nice packaging. Keep them don’t throw them, you can put them on your shelves and they look beautiful with a candle placed next to them.
Bin to hold Throw Blankets
I found this beautiful gold bin that I like to store some of my throw blankets on. I love to place it right next to the mirror, and it matches the decor of the shelves so it fits perfectly. I got this from HomeGoods as well. You can find some similar ones at target, Wayfair, etc.
Overall you can mix and match whatever you like to customize you shelves. You can take many approaches to designing them and this is a list of items I used and you can use them too. The finished look is below!!
